Summer Tragedy is a part of a collection of stories about women’s lives during different parts of American history. I was inspired by a story of the same name written by Arna Bontemps, a writer from Louisiana who became a prominent figure during the Harlem Renaissance.
Reading the late Carol Shields taught me that it is perfectly reasonable to have characters emerge in your mind, and then experience an urge to put them on paper. When you hear, psst, follow the voice wherever it goes.
My work has appeared in Boston Literary Magazine, Bartleby Snopes, Scarlett Rosebud, Minute Magazine, and Mouse Tales Press.
I’ve written:

The story of a couple from El Salvador who endure overwhelming hardships in their quest to escape violence. A story of exploitation, poverty and limited choices faced by those who dare to journey to America.
