Memories That Turned Into A Swan Song

By Renee Bruins

I remember all the late nights
To reminiscing futures.
We believed in all delights,
Months passed, and I knew you.

Seasons changed like new beginnings
The late-night talks were less,
And to which I must confess
More goodbyes were winning.

I stood by your side
On your most special day
Treasuring the moment
When you said, “I do.”

Months passed like starless nights,
And I kept asking was I no more a light
Time was a rarity that was lost.
Old memories loomed, but those were flaws

I voiced my feelings to reveal
The care was there no more.

You cried because of the damage,
I felt numb but managed.

You asked, for what I could
No longer give and gift.
I was no longer tethered,
For my soul was free like a swan.
